XM24 - Pink

56.8 miles
3 hours

I really like the Pink station. I've liked it ever since it came on at the end of the summer. It plays a great mix of old and new songs. A lot of classics. Surprisingly there was no Pink. But I did hear St. Elmos Fire. And something from Nelson; I think they were Ricky Nelson's sons with the blonde hair. A bunch of Huey Lewis and Billy Joel. Best of all, no one complained about the music, not even me.

Lots of running around today. Picking people up and dropping them off. Today was Halloween. The afternoon became a mini Goodfellas day (that scene when Ray Liotta is running around making the meatballs, screwing his girlfriend, getting his brother out of the home, picking up the drug and being followed by the FBI helicopter. Wait a minute. The whole day was like that. First, I voted today. For Obama and against all Constituional amendments. I drove to Hagen Ranch library and from the time I got there till I left was exactly an hour. It was well organized. First we signed the certificate for early voting. Then we checked in. The we got our ballots, big thingies. We had to connect the arrows. Like my Trace game on my iPhone. From there I went to Spanish River to volunteer in the guidance office. Then went home for lunch and stuff. I stopped by my office and picked up Carly at Regency. Thankfully Meredith stopped by and took Carly to swimming. So I went to get gas, mail my tax stuff, get Isay and then pick up dinner from Joe's. Later at 11:00pm, I had to get Carly and friends from Woodfield and take home Sam Cohen and Sam Jacobs. So 50-some miles later, I was home by midnite. Forgot to mention what a beautiful day it was until I picked up Issy at school at 4:45pm and we noticed the black clouds rolling in. It poured for trick or treating. Poor kids.

Pink was a good station for all that schlepping.

XM15 - Folk Village

82.4 miles
2 hours, 35 minutes

I loved Folk Village. All about love and peace and America. I didn't
actually know very much. But then they played Cat Stevens' Peace Train. I
love that song. And it made me think how this amazing musician gave it all
up for his religion. Part of me thought what a waste. Another part just
thought hmmmmm. I also loved John Prine's version of Angel from Montgomery.
I have Bonnie Raitt doing that song somewhere and I love it. It's a great
song. For some reason, I think John Prine wrote it and performed it
originally. I did lots of tagging today:

Utah Phillips (never heard of him) -- rock Me to Sleep
Tim O'Brien - Where's Love Come from
Ralph McTell - Weather the Storm
Hazel Dickens/Alice Gerrard (kind of like the Indigo Girls) - Let That Liar
Alone
Tom Paxton/Dave Van Ronk - Did You Hear John Hurt? -- I couldn't figure out
is it was about John Hurt or about a guy named John how got hurt.

XM 14 - Bluegrass Junction

32.9 miles
1 hour 55 minutes

It was weird that I was done my schlepping day at 5:30pm, but I was. Still I spent 2 hours in the car listening to bluegrass. It wasn't too bad. Twangy. I'm certainly learning a lot about country music. The bluegrass is right from the hills of Appalachia. Lots and lots of fiddles and broken hearts. I had not heard of any of the songs. Shockingly, Shazaam knew 2 of the songs. "God Loves His Children" by Lou Reid & Carolina (not the cool Lou Reed of Girls in High Heels, but some fiddling, religious Lou Reid). Actually, the album cover is of 3 men with mustaches and a lady in the 1970's. That brings up a point. Bluegrass is exactly the same whether it was recorded in 1960 or today. It has not seemed to change at all over time like other genres. The Infamous Stringdusters (great name), played When Silence is the Only Sound. Great title. Well, the station did not put me in a funk, so I can't complain too much.

XM 13 - Willy's Place

95 miles
3 hours

I was in my car a lot today which was a shame because I didn't love Willie's Place. It was old time country music, the stuff I have never been that fond of. Lots of twang. Although I was in the car today for 3 hours, I only heard 2 or 3 Willy Nelson songs. I would have loved to have heard more of Willy because I actually like his voice a lot. Heard some of the older singers that I recognize, i.e., Mel Tillis, Tammy Wynette, George Strait. But no familiar songs. Hardly any songs were taggable on Shazam or Midori. Most of the songs were so depressing. Losing a man because he cheated. Losing a woman because HE cheating. When I went to pick Molly up from soccer at 9:00pm I was miserable to be listening to Country Gospel. When I went to pick Molly up from soccer at 9:00pm, I was miserable to be listening to Country Gospel. I wanted to slit my wrists. Twang and Jesus at the same time. Awful. So I called my mom so I wouldn’t have to listen to it.

I spent about 3 hours in the car. Took my parents to the airport. Then went to the Bar office for the Solo Luncheon. Spent a couple of hours there and then went to Del Prado to pick up Issy and her friends. Michelle picked up from the train as a favor (thankfully). I had to drive to soccer practice at 6:00pm and then pick up CARLY and Brooke at Grandview and take Brooke home. I got home from there at 7:51pm. Then I had to go to FAU at 9:00pm to get Molly and Zoe at soccer. Trevor kept Molly’s team an extra 15 minutes. Long day.
